In fairness, you may be correct that it's a combination of failures, the staff's, the players, and we transfer our disappointment to the leader of the team.

This team is ordinary and will likely fare well against conference competition, but it's not special. That is all.

I was shamelessly hoping for somethig special.

If everyone had played as well as Beck, we would have won this game going away. We lost in spite of Beck, not because of Beck.
I agree with this. I think the O-line is as much to blame as anybody (Hoya mentioned this on CB shortly after the game). How many false starts were there? Sitting second and 3 is much different than second 8 due to a penalty. We have this vaunted O-line and they can't even spring CB for more that 3 yards at best. That was dissapointing.

Beck is not great. He can't take the whole team on his shoulders and win despite the team's shortcomings (Detmer, Young, and McMahon were great at this). But Beck can appear great with a better effort from the rest of the team.

Arch, you do this every year, my friend. BYU loses a game they could have easily won and you go all Charlie Brown on us. I'm holding off Charlie Brown until at least mid-season. I'm expecting a W against BC for no other reason than we always split 2-game series with teams east of the Mississippi (go ahead, check the record). Okay, other than Notre Dame, but that is a 2&1, so it doesn't count, and we still end up getting a win in those series. Besides, their God is stronger than ours (we need a Touchdown Jesus of our own).

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

But this season I have already turned off college football on CB. BYU is no longer fun to watch, at least for me.

BYU has two more chances to resurrect itself, against BC and if possible in a meaningful bowl game, otherwise, the team is in the doldrums, once again. After thirty years of entertainment, I would say the first twenty years were a good investment, but these last ten have been a poor investment of time and entertainment.

Every year, I go Charlie Brown, hoping my hopes won't be dashed in the first game, but alas Lucy always pulls the rug out, nonetheless.

I am looking forward to one of my favorite years ever!!! I love this team. They play hard, run hard and are feisty.

I can't wait to see them up against BC!!!

He DID slide on that 3rd down play. Losing battles just to win the war? Some field general.
