Default The Blueprint to beat BYU

Michigan State put that on the court yesterday.

Be physical.

Shut down Jonathan Tavernari and play very physical defense against him, cause if he isn't on, even if Plaisted is having a solid game, it essentially makes BYU one dimensional and easier to defend.

That's the blueprint to stop BYU.

Lee Cummard has to figure out a way to solve his foul problem, cause he's killing us by not being on the court.

Make Murdock be the guy who has to decide whether to take the shot or not.

I know that supposedly didn't work in a recent game, but I think if Murdock doesn't step up, it will work.

Also what we saw is that a big team can kill us because with JT at the 4, we are playing small-ball. That's why Plaisted and Vuk were on the court at the same time.

The MSU game has me in funk, believing we'll never even make a blip on the national radar. We simply can't recruit the athletes necessary to compete beyond the Rocky Mountains.

BYU is at its zenith and that zenith isn't very high. I had hoped for better.

That freaking Serbian or whatever, he's not some amazing athlete, yet he cleaned up against BYU.

It's a matter of matchups, and one team being disciplined, well-coached, and executing in the crunch. Neitzle hit all the tough shots in the 2nd half. Is he some amazing athlete? No.

Murdock wasn't the problem, but I see your point.

If BYU boxes out they have a 20 point lead at halftime.

I agree but I'm not so sure that many teams that BYU will play will be able to do that. I'm still convinced the Utes are the second best team in the MWC, and it is not sure Green and Kim Tille are going to be able to take Tavernari out.

I do think Tav is severely overrated. He killed BYU in that game. He took a ton of terrible shots.

UNLV is better than Utah.

New Mexico MIGHT be as well....but that's a big maybe there.

You are putting way too much stock into last season. UNLV doesn't have a single player taller than 6-8. The Utes have size problems, but nothing like UNLV. The only real reason to rank UNLV over Utah is because of last year.

New Mexico is a ticking time bomb. It is highly unlikely they make it through the season without suspensions and legal problems.

You could be right. UNLV has a big test at home against Arizona on Dec. 19th.

Izzo simply out coached Rose in the second half in the game. I am a big Rose fan but I have no idea why we wanted to slow down the tempo and grind it out. That is not our style of ball that is Michigan State's style. The fact that they erased our lead in a matter of minutes was not good either.

The other thing that absolutely killed us was our free throw shooting. Sam Burgess missing a front end of a one and one we we are down by one point with 2 minutes left was pretty much the ball game. Plaisted was 3 for 8. The Spartans were pretty much money in the second half from the stripe. Not only that but in crunch time, Izzo's team executed their offense to perfection and scored just about every time down the court.

BYU simply was out coached and out executed.
