The politics of torture - good pieces on NPR
FBI says CIA is lying about effectiveness of torture.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=103475220 This is an excellent piece at the back-and-forth battle about torture in the administration: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=103469796 Note that some people fought back AGAINST torture. You will note that the Justice guy who withdrew the torture memos lost his job after a year, and did not end up any circuit court. |

Tangent...
Next week photos of prisoner abuse will be released, per the 2003 ACLU lawsuit - the same lawsuit that resulted in the memos being released last week. It will be interesting to see how much play the photos get in the media. Swine flu will suck all the oxygen out of the room; there will not be room for much else. If the ACLU or the Obama administration hold off on releasing the images, until the story on the pig flu dies down, it will lead me to be even more cynical of their motivations.

WP had this article about Bybee over the weekend. Makes me wonder whether he actually regrets it or not. |
