Part of this might be motivated to show the church's muscle. I.e. "Look at how much we raised." Show some force to the other players in the anti-gay social-conservative movement. Have Dobson take notice.

Maybe the stake should rely on text messages instead.
Some people in my stake will just send their personal assistants to do it.

Others will have their lawyer respond for them using a power of attorney.

TIC.....based on your descriptions, I would assume that our wards contain different demographics. However, your ward is likely the outlier, not mine, as even normal wards with average incomes will have email in most homes.

My experience is that upper level administrators often weigh such things in their decisions.

Don't respond. Just ignore and it will go away. That usually works for me. They know to only request money for local families, local kids on missions and none of the bigger stuff. I support the ward and not beyond that.

Do you want them to accumulate a database in case your child wanted to attend BYU and that child is forever excluded because you sent or responded nastily?

Being unavailable has its advantages.
I considered this. But I told my wife that to simply hope it goes away is the coward's route. I think there is a measure of honor in simply being honest. Keep in mind, I am not saying I don't support the Prophet. I am simply admitting that I am not getting the answer that I am allegedly supposed to be getting. So until I receive it, I cannot act.

Also, my home teacher is the Ward Coordinator for this effort, so it won't go away, even if I wanted it to do such.

So, dumb followup question--doesn't this put their tax-exempt status at risk?

EDIT: Never mind...Arch answered it in another thread.

Being a coward has its advantages. Being courageous in church never does.

The Japanese axiom, "the nail that sticks up gets hammered down." In our culture this is very true. So go "stick out or up" where they least expect to see you.

Agreed. I am not anticipating a dramatic Al Pacino "And Justice for All" moment.

But I think this should be done face to face. A simple, thanks but no thanks is all they will get from me.

If they want to start some static, I have no problem pulling out my nine.

Here is a link to the actual letter that was sent out to all the wards and stakes:

We ask that you do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time to assure that marriage in California is legally defined as being between a man and a woman. Our best efforts are required to preserve the sacred institution of marriage.
Seems pretty straight forward to me.

This is excellent advice. Tell me, if I reviewed your posts, would I find that you choose to act consistently with this standard?

WHoa, I guess I didn't read far enough before my last post. Does this not qualify as a personal attack?
