I'm still waiting for the Great Messiah of Politics to tell us how to resolve this problem. His "tough" talk - tough if you're a wimp - sounds like he's more on the side of the oppressors rather than the oppressed.

I don't think you understand the fine line he must walk here at all.

You tell us, Il Pad, what should Obama say to the Iranians right now? What should he do that he isn't doing?

Obama could have done a little better with surrogates expounding on freedom and values, etc.

However, I do think it would be a mistake for Obama to give ammo to those crazy Ayatollahs who claim this is all an American conspiracy anyway.

I agree with deferring to surrogates and that he can't fuel the mullahs. There is not much one can do except to sit on the sidelines right now and hope the power of the Iranian peoples can prevail against their oppressors. I'm not hopeful as the Chinese successfully suppressed democracy.

when you are a heartless bastard that can kill women and children because you think God has ordained your power (hmm, what does that sound like?), it's not that hard to maintain power against the unarmed masses.

Sprinkle in 100 million small arms among the populace (and not just among the Basij fighters like now), and then you can start to talk the R word.
