No it isn't. The RTC disposed of assets of failed institutions, it didn't prop up bad ones.

The press is part of the sanctum sanctorum that will benefit most form this massive subsidy. Long gone are the days when the press was the public's true guardian, keeping the powerful honest. If you ever doubted there's a cast system in the U.S. that won't allow itself to fail you now have your answer. Our mother countries' old habits are hard to break.

Still, there are many knowledgeable voices (on the perifphery of the estabishment; conservative intellectuals; writers and academics) who are making responsible arguments against the bail out.

The NY Times is a little more charitable than time. It says leaders have not made a convincing case, though the Times offiially strongly supports the bail out (of course), and the attitude is one of condescension, that it must be made clear and digestible to the masses.

Bail out opponents are not on the cool side.

I got one of those shitty chain emails against the bailout. The email they were forwarding did faulty math to claim that the $80B bailout equated to $500,000 for every adult in the US and went on to talk about what everyone could do with half mill instead of bailout. I'm assuming the originator did the math faulty intentionally to deceive and everyone forwarding it was too stupid to notice.

Could have orginated in Lehi. Don't know. Person who sent it to me forwarded it to her kid's soccer team email list. How abusive is that?

If I had one wish, it would be that people learn how to properly utilize the BCC field on their email form.

back in the late 90s, when we were using groupwise as our email system, i remember there was a free shareware program you could download that revealed all the addresses in the bcc field.

It was awesome.

Sadly, cannot find a similar free program like that anymore.
