Gloria was the make-out song of choice when I was in junior high. In the long-closed attic of adolescent memories, hearing the part of the song "..and then she comes in my room, and makes me feel ALL RIGHT!!!" even now evokes the same junior high feelings as doing the rope climb in 1966.

And '60s Airplane was great, even with pseudo-hip album names like Surrealistic Pillow. But that group's fall from grace (rim shot) by performing crap like "We Built This City" is beyond redemption.

Strolling down memory lane, Nights in White Satin seemed to be the only song they ever played during lunch in the old Davis High School cafeteria. I still smell those cheeseburgers frying everytime I hear that song.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

WHile I would not put any of those on the list of greatest songs, I can tell that you and I would rarely argue over the choice of CDs on a road trip. Thios are all excelletn songs and among my personal favorites. For me, Head East's is one of the most overlooked great songs ever.

Foghat - Slow Ride
Kansas - Wayward Son
Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do (the live version)
Boston - Long Time
Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
REO Speedwagon - Roll With The Changes

60s
Stop Stop Stop - The Hollies
Cream - White Room
The Kinks - All Day And All Of The Night
Jefferson Airplane - Somebody To Love
Them - Gloria

That's off the top of my head (I believe that it was DDD who said this list could be huge) and I too didn't include The Beatles or Zeppelin because both bands have far too many songs.
Great list. White Room, Wayward Son belong on my list, too. And Slow Ride should be on the top of the list, especially after that Carl's Jr. commercial with the hot chick on the bull thing.

I just can't participate in this. It's like having someone ask you which is your favorite child. I can't do it.

We use to wear out that Head East song on our way up skiing. Four or five guys in a Dodge Dart heading up to Targhee singing at the top of their lungs. Good times and good memories.

Your right they don't belong on a greatest list, I'm down to some old favorites.
