If you haven't ever considered the influence of George Rapp (the pietist founder of Harmony, Pennsylvania) on Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, and Mormonism, you're in for a treat.

It's possible that these are both elements of a wider set of phenomena related to the Second Great Awakening or other social currents in this section of the 19th century United States. But, in that case, the connections are still there, albeit as ones derived from the same catalysts. I think I'm going to try to sneak out to Old Economy Village in the next month or so.
