Default Wasatch Back Reports

How'd everyone do? Nice blogs, fuegote and Runner. Anyone know who won? I'm guessing BYU did, but I know the fastrunning blog team was gunning for them.

The weather, especially Saturday, was brutal. Our other van got caught in the middle of it. The woman who did the Ragnar stretch typically runs 8-8:30 miles; she managed a 14:30 minute pace in the middle of the 96 degree heat.

Despite the heat, everyone had a great time. Absolutely beautiful course, very well-organized race. My only complaint was the dust kicked up on the trail portions.

Funnest race I've ever run, by far. We're registered for next year.

Amen, brotha....

My wife and I are already figuring out our next year's team. I'm sort of the obsessive type anyway, so that's not all that surprising, but when it hooks my wife like this, you know it's a great race.

I found out BYU won, in a little over 17 hours (about a 5:40 pace). Amazing with that heat. Of course, when you finish that quick, you don't have to contest with the heat too much... My BIL volunteered at the Ragnar exchange and saw them come through. Their guy did the 4 miles in just under 28 minutes. 7 minute miles straight up a mountain. Those guys are not human.

Nice time on leg 29, by the way. We had a really fast guy run that on our team and he didn't beat you by much.

96 degrees at greater than 4,000 feet elevation is pretty damned hot. They're running up mountains for heaven's sake.

4000 feet was the low point on the course. These guys were running at 9000 feet in the hottest part.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that running an 8% grade at 9000 feet in 96 degrees is a little hotter than a air-conditioned living room in Dallas.

A friend of mine ran it as a last minute addition, and I'll be running it next year after hearing what he had to say about the experience.

Did you see the couple who got engaged? My wife and I are responsible for them hooking up:
