I'm using a little dramatic license here (yes, they're BOTH Republicans; yes, they BOTH supported the surge), but surely you get my point here. People's memories are not so short they don't remember Bush v. McCain in 2000, or the Gang of 14, and on and on. And this is ignoring the fact that their public persona and styles are entirely different.

I don't have empirical data for you to pour over, I'm just going with my gut feeling that when people think of McCain, they don't think of Bush, and vice versa. Surely some policies will be similar--they are in the same party, for crying out loud--but McCain will just as surely govern much differently from Bush, and I think Americans generally detect that.

Heh, so it does. I think it's supposed to be John Wayne (I can't take credit for it).

The very fact that you are forced to compare Palin to Obama instead of McCain to Obama speaks volumes.

Hey, FM, did you read the post?

I had the same reaction you did and even had a reply typed up before I re-read and and realized there's a specific reason he's comparing Palin (instead of McCain) to Obama.

He's only "forced" to do so because in his opinion a McCain presidency would be very short-lived.
