Default The new LDS statement on gay marriage

http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/articl...e-sex-marriage

In our ward council there was a big to-do about us having a special third hour session to go over this. And there were murmurings of agreement "yes we need to talk about this, blah, blah, blah."

So I finally read the statement and I'm wondering what is there that isn't already known? There is nothing in there that members must politically oppose gay marriage. Yet I'm afraid that's what the meeting is going to be about.

Will be highly unsatisfying if that is the case. Mullahs may get free reign.

I won't be at the meeting because of other responsibilities.

I am NOT a big fan of the church mixing it up with politics. It drives a wedge into things that is just unnecessary. We should NOT be sending the message that if you agree with gay marriage you don't belong in our church.

Church leaders simply don't see the consequences of the things they do. That's the fundamental problem here.

Ask Jeff Holland if it's ok for a Mormon to support gay marriage. He would say: "Of course!" I have no doubt about it.

But the apostles want to push their global anti-gay marriage agenda while also leaving some room for a little thought diversity. What the apostles fail to see is that the effect of pushing their agenda is to give mullahs inspiration to eliminate diversity of thought.

For me the point of greatest concern is the "behind the scenes" involvement, particularly financial support through wealthy members or other hidden routes. The church should be able to speak out about their moral views on the issues; but leave it to the members to become, or not become, active politically or financially

The planned meeting never happened, as far as I know.
