Default Iowa GOP governor criticizing Romney

for not campaigning more in Iowa, and trying hard to win in the state.

Ummm, Mr. Governor, Iowa has a history of BSC voting. Iowa doesn't matter. Iowa is full of nuts. That's why Romney is not going to invest political capital in Iowa.

Romney put a lot of eggs in the Iowa basket in 2008 and they rewarded Huckabee for his trouble. I didn't expect Romney would make that same mistake again, and the gov should not be surprised.

What I don't understand is why Romney and Hunstman skipped this meeting:

A faith forum in Iowa. Great chance to look mainstream, talk about Jesus, tear into the Evangelical vote. And they were invited.

I guess the Romney campaign believed it would be potentially explosive?

You really don't understand this? You think Romney wants to be in situations where his faith is highlighted?

I'm reminded of a video clip released by some radio station back in 2008 where Romney--off the air and without his knowledge--was recorded having a semi-heated discussion with a talk show host about religion. As I recall, he was emphatic that he not be perceived as the "Mormon candidate."

He doesn't want religion to be an issue, and I don't blame him. Not because I'm ashamed of Mormonism, but because it has very little to do with governing the country and it's a distraction. I don't blame him for staying away.

Iowa being a caucus state if I remember does not reward normal campaigning. A special interest can capture the election even if it doesn't represent all potential voters.

Skipping Iowa is smart.
