Default Explicit lyrics

I think it may be time for me to clean up my iPod. Some friends were over this evening and their 9-year old daughter spent most of the night playing with my iPod. With thousands of songs to choose from, she quickly found one that had the f word in the title (an old Beck song). This was announced in front of everybody.

It actually raises a dilemma regarding children and music. There are a lot of good bands that have clean lyrics, except for one or two songs. I hear foul language regularly at work and I'm not too shy about using it either. So a swear word in a song doesn't particularly bother me, but I don't want my kids listening to it. I guess I'm at that stage in life when I need to set an example. No fun.

With Gidget and I moving we have been cleaning house. I had shoe boxes full of CD's that I haven't listened to in ages. So I decided to rip them onto our computer and then sell the discs. Made about $100 at FYE. So we took the money and a check from Costco to buy an 80GB Ipod to store everything. That said, as I was ripping CD's I was embarrassed by some of the CD's I owned and didn't even end up ripping half of them because they contained explicit lyrics or were so stupid and lame. One of them that I have to mention was the very first CD I ever owned. It was actually a birthday gift I think in 6th grade from a friend. Another Bad Creation. Oh man. I also found my Hootie and the Blowfish Cracked Rearview Mirror. FYE wouldn't even buy it so I DI'd it.

That's nothing. I had just gotten my HDTV and my new DISH HD service. Had some member guests over for dinner.

I decided to flip to a movie to demonstrate the quality. So I flip over to a movie I had recorded but not watched. Broken flowers. Naked women on the screen from a HBO commercial for one of their sex shows. I hit the 30 second forward, more naked women, hit it again, no naked women.

I say, "sorry, I didn't know that was there."

It's pretty embarrassing.

Speaking of "No Fun," my wife nixed The Sex Pistols disc in the car recently. I said that the kids were ready for Anarchy in the UK. She made it very clear that the kids would not be listening to The "Sex Pistols." I guess she had a point (I didnt want to press my luck and point out that they like The New Pornographers)

Our rule....no f words in songs. If there is an f word in the song, adios.

This really sucks because one of the kids favorite songs is "Don't Call me Whitney, Bobby" by Islands. We call it the Brittle Bones song. I need to bleep out the f word and put it back in the rotation.

My 2 year old loves Monster's Inc. She loves Mike. However, she cannot say Mike. It's literally an F-bomb when it comes out of her mouth. My mother bought her a big Mike stuffed animal from the Disney Store. She drags it around all the time dropping the F-bomb left and right.

Here's the video before we figured out what she was saying. And yes that is my annoying hyena like laugh.

Surfah, that's hilarious! Seriously, like $10,000 on America's Funniest Home Videos funny. My son used to sound exactly the same when he tried to say the word "truck". My buddies all used to try and make him say "dump truck" for obvious reasons. Bluegoose's kid used to have a similar problem saying the word "cougars" during football games. It was actually an appropriate year for them to have that new nickname as several were booted from the team for just that.

That night she was killing us. She's kind of at the parrot stage right now so when she started saying it we were worried about where she might have picked it up. She actually was starting to get really frustrated too because we didn't understand her. She's a funny kid.

I watched this about 8 times and laughed hysterically every time.
