5:18's, to be exact. Now that's just stupid. And by stupid, I mean incredible. That kid's got talent.

Shows how ordinary I was in high school. If I broke 18:00 minutes back then I was screaming for joy. Pretty good figuring by me, eh.

Archaea breaks arm patting himself on back.

18:05 was my best ever time in High School - good enough for me to make the varsity cross country team. Not good enough to go to state as an individual but our team always went to state. A 16:28 would probably put someone in the top 20 in the 2006 Utah High School Cross Country Championships

Do high schools run a 4K or 7K for cross country?

I was a swimmer who was allowed to run occasionally, so I usually had no idea what I was doing.

I went out hard and died.

Now I have no opening speed, no middle speed and no closing speed.

Nevada has two BYU track signees. I had not known that previously.

3.2 miles. Slightly longer than a 5K (5.15K)

At least in Utah in 1988. The state XC meet is held at Sugarhouse park. When I was in high school, East, Highland, and South also had their home meets at Sugarhouse park although all three schools had different courses through the park.

Look at some of these high school records and how long they have stood.

http://trackandfieldnews.com/archive...r_records.html

Notice a high schooler ran a 2:23 marathon. What!

Fifteen years ago and about 120 pounds ago I was right between16:00 and 16:10 5ker at 3 different races . I only ran for my enjoyment rather than on cross country because I was not interested in that kind of pain on a daily basis and I question the sanity of anyone who does. Nowadays I would be lucky to break 30 minutes. But you can run real fast if you are 6'3" and only have to carry 120 lbs. as I did in those days.
