Initial money ranges anywhere between 5k and 35k as a signing bonus and could be higher. 35k is the highest I have heard of. If the make the roster it is the league minimum which was around 275k a couple of years ago but has probably gone up since then.

Also if you make the practice squad it is 5k a week during the season. So 5k times 17 weeks, as well as full playoff and superbowl shares if your team makes it.

Satema Gali made 165k on the practice squad of the Patriots when they won the SuperBowl he also recieved a 15k superbowl ring.

Not a bad haul.

Of those I think Long and Burnett have the best shot. I wouldn't rule out Steve Tate landing a special teams role in Tampa...despite what some may think.
Drum, why didn't Boone try to get another year back? Is it because he did both a Grey shirt and a red shirt?

I agree that it is a long shot.
Caleb Campbell is both a better player and a better prospect as far as tangibles go.

He never should have gone to West Point. He was a stud OLB as a freshman and was exceptional at SS as a soph. He strongly considered transferring from West Point and could have had his choice of teams to play. West Point changed its policies to allow kids like him to go straight into pro sports if they can make it and pay back their military committment through recruiting gigs and working with recruiting command during their offseasons so he decided to stay. Best NFL prospect from West Point since I started following Army, but that is not saying much. Off hand I can think of 3 or 4.

Tate was a good MWC caliber safety, but his numbers were inflated because the U LBs sucked ass the past two years. I must admit that his bright and shining moments against BYU last year are what I will remember him for. He was a serious lightning bolt for BYU fans. It is heartwarming to know that Curtis' final memory versus Tate's concerning the rivalry will be so different.

I think so...

My understanding was that Boone redshirted when he could've played and as such, his chances for that extra year were not so hot.

My point in general was that I thought Tate was a guy that had a motor to make it mostly on special teams. Do I think he is an NFL Safety? No, I don't. I agree that Parker, Revill, and others were better. I just thought that he had the kind of desire that could possibly get him a shot as a special teamer...that's all. I'm not expecting him to be John Lynch, just pulling for him to be successful, that's all.

If he had so much desire why did he lay down in the fetal position for Harvey Unga and Michael Reedl? Especially after promising the boosters at the Ute recrute brouhaha that Utah was going to prove itself a genuine program and not a one year hit wonder, such as BYU? I mean big bad Steve Tate promised you that this year would distinguish a clear difference in program quality between BYU and Utah. Can't say he lied, I reckon!

But I hope he keeps trying. Such efforts will provide BYU fans more opportunities to pile on when he falls short.

Didn't know that about Campbell. It sounds like he's a better person than football player if he was willing to go to West Point. I wish him well.

As for Tate, I just know that he's a good guy. I won't let the last play against BYU distract from liking him. Unlike guys like Y'z guy, my self esteem doesn't rely on how an athlete plays. If it did, I would sing the praises of Cal Ripkin Jr.

I'm seriously considering coming up your way this summer, if for no other reason than to shoot some nature with my camera. I need to get out and enjoy places other than my own backyard. If I do make it that way, can I buy you lunch? We can meet at the Ft. Hall Casino.
