I haven't read it, but given its date of publication, it precedes the "crackdown" that occurred later, if I'm not mistaken. People were warned about the subject of Heavenly Mother.
Now whether there is a larger subterranean feminist movement in Mormonism, without any particular leaders, I don't know. If there is one, I would say that it is very, very subtle. Perhaps changes in Relief Society (renaming homemaking, changing the activities) reflect a desire to accomodate the modern young Mormon female. I think in general Mormon females sublimate whatever anxieties they have about their roles in the culture. |
