Default Race and BYU

regarding Cougjunkie's brouhaha over Hill...

I think it would be a wonderful thing for BYU if there was a black quarterback who was added to the greats.

It would be great press for BYU. It would be great PR for the church.

This is reason enough for BYU fans to be excited about a black QB prospect, IMO.

Obviously, race has everything to do with it. But so what?

The thing is at BYU we need more of a smart, pocket passer type not an athletic, raw talent type QB.

I love it.

Black quarterback = athletic, raw (read "non-smart").

Yes, BYU fans would have a tough time adjusting to having a black quarterback in camp, for sure.

Why would there be difficulty adjusting to having a black QB in camp?

I'm afraid that we would hear the same sort of comments Jay made, that might be unwarranted.

I.e. "the black quarterback is a great athlete, but can't make good decisions" (because he isn't very smart).

That very well could be the case, but I think we would see some people putting out unwarranted stereotypes.

Thanks for getting it. I was hoping the guys here would be smart enough to get the sarcasm without an explanation.

It's not sarcasm without inclusion of the smiley face.

Surely you knew that those were the rules.

I'm with SU. The smiley face ruins it. Of course for SU the exclusion of the smiley face allows you to call anything you ever write sarcasm.

This looks like it may have been a joke but it may still be inappropriate. Why is this different from that joke that sports caster cracked about Tiger Woods re get out the chitlins, etc.?
