Default Election Monday in Canada ...

Canada will elect a new Prime Minister this evening, a Conservative for the first time in 12 years !!

Just thought I'd share with you what Canadian election night is like as compared to an American election night ...

(AME) American election night: Tune in for 6:00 evening news that will run the entire evening until the election is finished, complete with exit poles and predictions etc.

(CEN) Canadian election night: Imagine tuning into 3 different John Daily/SNL type shows, on one channel that run back to back until roughly 9:00 pm. Switch the channel and there is a PBS Frontline type show focusing on the election or local news that focuses on the election, in between Canadian sitcoms.

(AME) American network coverage is virtually the same from channel to channel, mostly focusing on the largest electorate states, the exit poles and the hotly contested races … the networks revel in how divided the electorate is and the suspense of the election.

(CEN) The comedians on the Canadian shows, who popped out the womb voting liberal like the vast majority of Canadians, are lambasting the liberal party for their scandals and general incompetence, and reveling in the fact that not only will their party lose but that it deserves to lose.

In all seriousness many life long liberals will simply vote for any party other than the liberal party to ensure the liberals do not win! The election is a forgone conclusion, the conservatives will win, this is how the system has worked forever, it’s time to vote in a conservative party that will prune the government that has grown out of control … it’s time for a change so the electorate accepts it and even embraces it like a long weekend. There is no talk of division, no suspense, merely reporting of the results.

Oh, and Canda also has the Bloc Québecois ... they will win enough parliment seats in Québec to ensure they have enough political power to threaten separation and therefore ensure 70% of all Canadian tax revenue finds it's way into The Québec economy!

ooops, and I guess maybe I should have posted these messages under politics :wink:

Even though the new guy is a conservative, he probably ran on an anti-American platform.

They all do.

Not according to the Liberal attack ads ...

liberal ad #1:

"Who paid for Stephen Harper's rise to the head of the party?" asks the voice. "We don't know. He refuses to reveal his donors. What do you suppose he's hiding? We do know he's very popular with right wingers in the U.S. They have money, maybe they helped him. We just don't know. He just won't say."

Liberal ad #2

"A Harper victory will put a smile on George Bush's face. At least someone will be smiling, eh," the ad states.

Here are some issues they attack with the most:

* Attack Harper's comments to an American think-tank in Montreal when he called the U.S. a light and inspiration to Canadians and the world;
* Report comments Harper made to an American audience, advising them not to feel bad for Canada's unemployed, who receive "generous social assistance and unemployment assistance," and that Canada is content to become a second-tier social country;
* Quote a U.S. newspaper editorial that described Harper as the most pro-U.S. leader in the western world.

Whatever. I was just musing anyways.

I will say, though, that 'liberal attack ads' are probably not the most reliable source of information about conservatives.

HAHAHAHAHA. This about made me shite myself. This coming from the same party that doesn't think a Blow Job in the oval office is cheating/having sex with someone other than your wife.

I flush Democratic principles down the toilet twice a day....
