I thought Audi was out of the woods on the electrical issues for the past few years? I havent paid much attention since the 2nd gen TT came out a few years ago.

Also, the debut of the R8 on Superbowl Sunday really caught my eye. Love that Lambo influence.

Are VWs unreliable? I just assumed they were Honda equivalents....Jetta, Passat, etc..

Also, what about higher mileage BMW's or Lexus or other cars simliar to them. What's your recommendation? looking at 2002 or newer on all vehicles with preferably around 50-60k unless they can go longer with regular maintenance. Also what should I look for with your recommended vehicle of choice?
I drive a 1993 Lexus and love it. It has 140,000 miles on it, and it has been a great car. I think the quality on the Lexus is great, and think you'd definitely be happy with one.

I love the look of the Audi's, but with the problems they've had, I'm less anxious to buy one.

Take a look at any VW and Audi and their parts are all stamped with VW symbol and the Audi rings. Many of the parts are interchangeable including drive train and motor. For example the 1.8T motor was the same. In the Audi and Passat it was placed longitudinally. In the Golf and Jetta it was placed transversely. But essentially the same. Many of their electrical components are the same as well.

I am a huge VAG fan and love Audi and VW, but I'd never buy one with 50-60k miles on one. I think the 1.8T motor is one of the greatest ever. I mean I pushed the limits of mine going from 7 pounds of boost to almost 20 on a daily driver with no effects. But the electrical issues become cumbersome. The recalls on the ignition coils, window regulators and MAF became too much for me.
