Default are Mormons anti-dog?

So I've never had a dog before. My mom hated pets, so I grew up that way. And now I'm thinking of getting a dog for various reasons. And I've been asking around for input. And trying to think of Mormons I know with dogs. Sure, I know some, but not so much families with kids. And most people I ask say "no way, don't get a dog." Maybe they have too many kids to be worrying about getting a dog?

Just thinking out loud here. And wanting to see at least one thread that isn't about gay marriage et al.

I have a dog.

Dogs are a lot of work, esp. when young. Also consider vacations, they can be expensive to board.

On the other hand, there are many wonderful things about dogs.

I can see why Mormon women with a bunch of kids wouldn't want a dog - they are alot of work, and it's usually the woman who takes care of them.

That said, I don't think Mormondom is anti-dog. We just don't elevate them to near human-like status to the extent your average DINK liberal yuppie couple would. But my family had dogs growing up, and plenty of families in my current ward have dogs.

I thoiuyght perhaps you were dyslexic.

I am not a big fan of dogs.

I hate rez dogs.

I really dislike dog owners that do not take responsibilty for their dogs. Like the dogs down the street from me that sometimes chase me on my bike. I did manage to connect one of my cleats to the dog's head so it gives me a wide bearth now.
Also a few weeks ago I was running by the park and some stupid little lap dog was nipping at my heels after a 6 mile run. I turned around and chased it all all the way back to its owners. I tried unsuccesfully a few times to kick it really really hard but I was too tired I guess.

I in no way represent all of mormondom, at least not in this situation.

We have a lot of dogs in our neighborhood.

I don't care enough to search for dog per capita data, but I suspect you're barking up the wrong tree.

I am. I hate dog poop, and it comes from dogs. I also hate that yappy rat-looking dog next door.

I am Mormon. I am anti-dog. I am also anti-cat. Anti-rodent. Anti-bird. Anti-reptile. Anti-amphibian. Fish are okay.

Gidget says if there was one thing that she would make her hesitate in marrying me again, it's the fact that I won't have house pets. I hate pets. I grew up with animals. I've had dogs, cats, turtles, rabbits, hamsters, and fish. I just hate animal hair. I hate animal smells. I hate picking up my animals poop. Pets are a ton of work and expensive. The enjoyment and satisfaction I have received from pets is minute compared to the stress and labor of owning one in my experience.
