Cool discussion of Mormon spotlight during Romney's campaign ...
http://online.wsj.com/article_email/...DQwMzgzWj.html
"I don't think that any of us had any idea how much anti-Mormon stuff was out there," said Armand Mauss, a Mormon sociologist who has written extensively about church culture, in an interview last week. "The Romney campaign has given the church a wake-up call. There is the equivalent of anti-Semitism still out there." Maybe some were surprised by the quantity of anti-Mormon stuff out there, but not if you've lived outside of the Rocky Mountain region. Where I grew up (not the South, but California), the evangelical churches were constantly preaching against the Church. One day my dad showed up at work and a co-worker handed him a pile of anti-Mormon stuff. He asked where she got it. She said the First Baptist church handed it out at a meeting for prospective members. Nice. That would be like substituting an anti-baptist Sunday School class for Gospel Essentials. None of the anti-Mormon crap spewed during the Romney campaign surprised me. The Church's public relations efforts are improving, but there is still a long way to go. |
