Default Troy

My favorite part of this movie is when Achilles (Brad Pitt) screams for Hector outside Troy's gate.

Fabulous movie

Also my favorite part. Closely followed by Achilles' telling Hector how that night he (Hector) won't have eyes, ears, or a tongue and will be wandering the underworld.

It bugs me how the film tried to show the entire Trojan War, from the abduction of Helen to the Horse. The entire Iliad covers only 50-something days. Can't we get the movie in installments or something?

Would I hate watching it? I haven't seen it yet-- it came out while I was on my mission.

I liked the part when Achilles' cousin thought he was ready to do battle and gets a can of whoop-ass opened on him by Hector and everyone thought Hector had just killed Achilles.

You'd like it, as long as you're not too much of a purist going in. There's a lot of good social history in there (costumes, ships, etc.) - The women of Troy wear jewelry modeled on "Priam's Treasure" found by Schliemann, etc. It departs pretty radically from the epic, and there aren't really any gods (Thetis is a little ambiguous - it shows her in the water), and there's this ridiculous love thing going on with Achilles and Briseis, but I really think it captures THE RAGE of Achilles. I show about 10 minutes to my Greek Civ class.

I thought it had some of the worst dialog of any high budget film I've seen.
