Default The number of Mormon "intellectual-class" disaffected

Was recently talking to a friend where we used to be in the same ward. We were talking about the people that we knew.

The number of people that have left the church is pretty astounding. It's more than I realized and includes persons who I would never have thought would go that direction.

I wonder if this is an exception or reflecting a more general trend.

I think many are uncomfortable being associated with bigotry. It's one thing to be part of a weird, fringe religion. It's quite another to be part of a fringe religion known for bigotry. I'm not saying that's what the Mormon church is, but with every passing day I think there are more people who are convinced that this is an accurate description.

Luckily it's not my job or responsibility to worry about any of this. I dare not "steady the ark."

If being associated means people associate you with bigotry and voting for Trump, won't it bother you?
