Default Changes in the Church

It appears that many view leadership of the Church so flawed that anything they say which isn't a temple question is inherently erroneous.

And there appears to be within the self-appointed intelligentsia the belief that if they lobby within by complaining to leadership, or without by mocking and bringing disdain, through "scholarly" discussions about leadership, that effective and "correct" change will be incurred.

In reviewing some of the more historical writings, it appears that is incorrect. Changes, including necessary societal, only occurs internally, by soft persuasion from within the leadership. Now that begets the question whether these leaders aren't affected by internal bickerings and writings of the intelligentsia. My belief, not really being a leader or insider, is that mostly gentle discussions with leadership but general observance of their spiritual teachings effects these changes not by a hue and cry about the Church.
