Default Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work

I have been thinking about this for awhile and it seems contrary to the whole notion of "if you screw up when you are a teenager you can't go on a mission"

Seems like the number one requirement to serve a mission is desire not sexual purity

Hey man, lighten up on our policy-makers. It's tough when the scriptures get in the way of what they're trying to do.

Maybe they came to the conclusion that many of those who "wish" to serve only do so in theory, and in fact cause huge problems and are impediments to the work.

Also that a too liberal attitude led to YM committing more sins, when they saw their predecessors get away with carousing til the week they left.

I dare bet that the Arkansas Little Rock mission single-handedly forced the church leaders to adopt the raise-the-bar initiative.

I think you are right. I don't agree with the policy, but your reasoning is correct.

There's no scriptural support for this kind of thing. Paul, Alma the Younger, Ammon, these are people who apparently can't get over the bar.

One wonders did they ever think that too strict an attitude incentivizes kids to lie about their carousing?

This is funny to me because I had a friend I grew up with who served in the Arkansas Little Rock mission from '83-'85 who has now left the church and is living in Vegas where he lives with a woman who runs one of the various Gentleman's Clubs there.

LOL!

Luckily I served in a mission where rebellion and rule breaking was not really a problem. The bad missionaries where the ones who got up 30 min late and didn't teach as much.

I can't imagine being in a mission where the rules are completely and always a joke.

And if I am ever a MP, those that are not living a missionary lifestyle will have their lifestyle choice become official and congruent with their status.

I remember an elder in my mission who admitted to some of us that he had lied about his worthiness. Because his uncle was the stake president. Eventually the guilt got to him (at least a year out) and he confessed to the MP. The MP, following protocol, sent a letter to his SP (not sure if still his uncle) for a decision to be made about sending him home or not. The SP elected not to have him sent home.

I respected that Elder.
