Default What gun do you have on your wishlist?

Why guns?

Because they are elegant machines. Finely crafted. Remember that favorite toy growing up? The one with heft and quality. You felt something special when you held that toy. The same is true of a finely crafted firearm.

Firing guns is also interesting. On the one hand you have an explosion as the hot gasses propel the bullet forward. On the other hand you have perfect stillness. Inner stillness combines with destructive power. There is a tension in that, that is worth exploring.

Anyway, here is the gun that has been on my wishlist for a long time:

1. Springfield Armory M1A. Classic weapon. Very accurate and powerful. You could feel comfortable hunting with this. Downside is that it is very expensive and quite a bit heavier than its competitors (like the AR-15).

Any of these would be nice, but I'd prefer the 30-06 if I had to choose.

For shame! No gun collectors here. Except IPU.

Here if you meet eligibility requirements, you can get one for about 400-500$.

I am aware of that program. But getting a used WWII vintage rifle is quite different than getting the new modern one.

I note that, outside of joining an affiliated club, I qualify. Maybe I'll get one eventually.

Well, when you're from the mean streets of Sandy, Utah, guns are more than just collectables.

My Dad gave me his Remington 870 12 gauge shot gun last year because he no longer has the desire to hunt pheasants. I gladly accepted.

He's had it for about 25 years and it's still as effective as a new model.

That's my gun. Got it for Christmas when I was 13 or 14.

I didn't know IPU was your son. That's pretty cool.

IPU, I bought the 870 Express recently. I posted as such.

Haven't been able to use it. Zulu451's express was a piece of crap. It fell apart on the range. I think it was missing one of the bars that you tap out to take apart.
