I havent read anything by Abbey... but will put it on my list. I do however, consider stegner to be the intermountain's william faulkner. In fact, I think stegner was ten times the writer faulkner was

I think Stegner is a better writer than Abbey, too. But you should read desert solitarie and then tell me if you see what I am trying to say.

I like Abbey's non-fiction a lot and Solitaire is one of my favorite books. His fiction is just so-so.
