I was going to say cougarguard, but I decided I had made enough really stupid jokes today.

(this is funnier if you think of Carlin's routine about When is Now).

Wild Swans by Jung Chang, a really interesting memoir about three generations of Chinese women. The grandmother was a concubine, the mother was a high-ranking Communist official under Mao.

Reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand right now. So far so good. I'm noticing alot about myself when reading about Peter Keating. Kind of a wake up call.

Books I own that are next up:
The Road
Atlas Shrugged
Rough Stone Rolling

I'm also very interested to read this book. Jung Chang wrote "Mao: The Unknown Story" which is one of the best biographies I've read. The history of Communist China is fascinating to me. Please let us know how you like it.

I've read it and enjoyed it quite a bit. She's a nice writer and the stories are pretty gripping. I'll take your advice on her Mao bio.

A similar book is "Red China Blues" by Jan Wong. "Red Star Over China" by Edgar Snow is an interesting inside look at Mao's early appeal. "Eldest Son" by Han Suyin is a good Zhou Enlai bio.

Do you have any other suggestions along these lines?

Sounds like you've read up alot more than I have already. I've heard "The Private Life of Chairman Mao" is also a good read. My brother recommended it to me. Written by Mao's personal physician. Apparently Mao didn't like to shower because he believed he "cleansed himself on the insides of women" or something along those lines. Never brushed his teeth, was basically just a nasty-ass dude.
