The thing that sets them apart is that they have been continuously churning out hits for decades.
A music teacher I had at BYU told us that musicians who have longevity usually have it because they are very talented.

You see bands like the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, U2, Rush, Metallica (his specific example) and musicians like Eric Clapton, Prince, Madonna who have been around (and popular) forever - it's because, regardless of your taste, they are truly talented musicians.

Neither of you have my two favorite Stones songs:
- Wild Horses
- Moonlight Mile

I couldn't remember if Wild Horses was a Stone's song or if it was the hit by The Osmonds - but that song was Crazy Horses.

As much as I like their hit "Satisfacton", I prefer the cover by Devo.

I'm not a huge Stones fan, but I love Under My Thumb and Start Me Up. The latter just has that opening riff that, like the aforementioned You Shook Me All Night, when you hear it, you have to stop and listen.

For the U2 crowd, are you guys familiar with their cover of Paint It Black? It was a b-side on "...Wild Horses." Very good cover.

This won't win me any friends I'm sure...but I never got the U2 appeal...someone want to explain this to me? Or do you all just have a man crush on Bono?

I'd say that I like U2 in spite of Bono.

It is inherently Un-American to not like AC/DC....and yes I know they're from Australia.

I also think that U2 is one of the most over-rated groups in modern rock history. I like U2, but if you say anything in Utah other that you just like U2 it's akin to speaking ill of the Lord's Anointed. Bono bugs the living hell out of me. You'd be hard pressed to find a guy who isn't more obsessed with getting his mug on TV trying to show people how wonderful and neccesarry he is to society.

Kind of like those BYU student who praise the gayness that is Depeche Mode...seriously when I hear a guy say he likes Depeche Mode, I suddenly think of that game they play in "The 40 Year Old Virgin"...the...."You know how I know your Gay? You like Depeche Mode" except in the movie they say Coldplay.
