As soon as I saw the title of this thread, I thought U2 one nanosecond later.

That is all.

Sorry to disappoint, but I put U2 between the level of Flock of Seagulls and the Eurythmics.

U2 would be on my list among bands I just don't get. Phish and Grateful Dead are two others. Insane Clown Posse, GWAR, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and KISS too would make the list because if you have to paint your face or wear a silly costume to make music you're not making much of anything IMO.

The main one for me is the Rolling Stones. Quick, name five memorable songs they recorded. Probably most of you had to really think about it if you could do it at all, and yet, they are considered by many to be one of the top bands ever.

Love or hate Elvis or the Beatles, even the casual music fan can name ten or more songs of their. The Stones just have very few memorable songs IMO.

A-freaking-men! Unforgettable Fire is, IMO, the last good album put out by U2. Joshua Tree has some very good songs, but top to bottom, Unforgettable Fire is much better.

I haven't like anything U2 has released since Joshua Tree. They should have quit while they were ahead.

Well, you'd be wrong. U2 isn't that good.

I can't agree with any of you on the U2 thing. However I am totally with you when it comes to Phish. When I lived back in Boston they were virtually worshipped. I never heard anything that I really liked from them. Maybe you have to be wasted to appreciate it?

I can name lots of memorable songs they recorded.

Satisfaction
Only Rock and Roll
Start me up
Shattered
Brown Sugar
You can't always get what you want
Gimme Shelter
Jumpin Jack Flash
Honky Tonk Women
Beast of Burden
Angie
....

The thing that sets them apart is that they have been continuously churning out hits for decades.
