Default Can anyone win at Notre Dame?

Sometimes lost in the conversation, is that ND has strict academic requirements for football recruits.

Can they be good? yes. But so can Stanford? Are you going to build a MNC caliber team at Stanford or ND? No.

When Holtz was coach, did they have lower standards? yes. When they raised the standards, did Holtz quit? Yes, he did.

BYU has standards too. You can be almost dumb as a rock, but you had better keep your penis in your pants, and keep your lips dry of the devil's rum. Limiting the pool to mostly LDS kids, and having moral requirements probably limits recruiting to a point that you can't be truly elite. We all know this. We can live with this. We dream of more, but it is just dreams.

I'm not sure that ND is going to be able to get the big name coach it desires.

Random thought: boy would it be fun if they hired Mike Leach. I would love that.

why do you think Meyer-Weiner told the press today that he is not interested in the job. He knows it's a crappy job.

To increase how much money ND throws at him before he claims "Mother Called"?

Or to be able to claim he's not interested.

It's not a better job. He won't have success at Notre Dame.

Even at Utah he could recruit thugs.

I wonder how much they are limited from recruiting thugs.

Every crappy year they have just makes it that much harder. The high school players today weren't even born yet when ND won their last national championship. Why play in the cold of upper Indiana when you have to option to go to LA, Austin or Gainsville.

Doesn't ND still have very highly ranked recruiting classes every year? Either the coaching stinks or the recruits are overrated.

That's what Meyer says before he takes any job. That statement is the surest sign yet he is thinking about leaving.

A lot of noise about Stoops to Notre Dame. That would be a huge shakeup for the Big 12. You wonder who Oklahoma would go for.
