- dealing with contrived reasoning, in depth analysis over the multiple meaning of some word, current philosphies of learned human behavior.
What does a second category accomplish beyond saving you the time of skipping the threads with which you are uncomfortable? You seem to feel that there may be people lurking who may be affected by what is written in some of these threads that go outside the "normal topics of gospel related questions". Assuming this is true, what does a second category accomplish? People will still be able to read them and the material won't change one bit. You seem to feel that having these posts under the "Religion" heading gives them more credibility/influence than if they were posted under a different forum name. I don't see how anything changes.

One of the best things about this board is people are able to express things that they don't dare say otherwise. With anonymity comes honesty (usually).

Anonymity is an illusion, my friend.

True. Complete anonymity is impossible.

I think it goes both ways equally. Some posters may not express insightful or heartfelt comments on topics being discussed, precisely because they don't know the person with whom they are conversing.

This is not the case with me, as I lack insight and feeling.

I don't have the least patience for him or you suggesting to me what it is appropriate for me to discuss on an internet message board. Opt out of and don't participate in whatever you deem inappropriate, but if you look down your nose at me and suggest that I should too then anticipate a tart reply.
Not only is the line fuzzy at best, but the whole dichotomy is a false one. The phrase "philosophies of men mingled with scripture" in context refers to false religious ideas (philosophies of men) mingled with true ones. It was originally spoken from the lips of a protestant minister in temple ceremony, NOT Satan as it is now. It has NOTHING to do with reason vs faith, or intellect vs spirit. Along with the phrase "peculiar people", this IMO is one of the most misused phrases by LDS.

In the category of misused/overused LDS phrases it's not even in the same ballpark as "I never said it would be easy. I only said it would be worth it."

My personal favorite is "Whatever does not kill me makes me stronger."

Surely with all the learned people around here someone will readily recognize the author of that quote and the delicious irony of it being uttered across a pulpit.

All cultures develop buzzwords, key phrases. This is inevitable.

Unfortunately, some of those buzzwords lose meaning or morph into something meaningless.

Which reminds me of the bumper sticker:

God is Dead --Nietschze

Niestzche is dead -- God

(I obviously don't know how to spell Niestzche's name; just go with it)
