Default Have you turned down a calling

because you thought you lacked the ability, or weren't worthy?

That's a great question.

It's also a great way to find out who among us lacks humility.

Most people turn callings down because they don't want to do the calling. When I was in the position to know those things, but I never met somebody who turned one claiming to be unable or unworthy.

This is why I have turned down callings.

Those who feel unable rarely, if ever, mention it. Perhaps it's because inability to do it doesn't seem to be an acceptable reason to turn down a calling.

You are the ones to be commended.

Unless that is what you want, then you're to be laughed at.

Two weeks before I moved out of state, the bishop's counselor told me they prayerfully considered my name and wanted to call me to the FHE committee. I turned it down because I was moving. I wanted to say that I wished the prayerful bishopric had bothered to get to know me before extending the so-called call, but I said nothing.

So I guess you could say I lacked the ability. I can't run FHE from two time zones away.

maybe it was sign you weren't supposed to move.
