We had a string quartet for the first half. Then they left, the poly relatives moved all the chairs out fo the way, hauled out the guitars and ukes, and we proceeded to ahve a good time for the next few hours.

I fear you're right but I aim to be checked into the hotel by 10pm at the latest.

In all honesty though I think we'll be able to pull it off. I have some immediate family on the mainland coming to it and a few friends from college making the trip but that's it from my side. We sent out less than 200 invitations and probably a third if not more were to people out of state so we're not expecting much of a turn out. So hopefully that translates into something short. Couple that with a ring ceremony we're doing for her non-member family before the reception. So we're anticipating most people showing up for that and not staying to the end of the reception.

This would be my idea of fun. But I only have two uncles showing up and only one plays. My mom asked if she wanted my sisters to dance, but it's just going to be low key. I think she was a bit hurt when I said no.

Well, here are some of my suggestions:

*Death Cab for Cutie - Lack of Color, Soul Meets Body, I Will Follow You Into the Dark, etc are solid choices. Maybe a bit 'sad' for a wedding, but who really listens to the words at a wedding right? It's all about the feel and they aren't terrible

*Syd Matters - To All Of You. Solid kinda chill song, but still upbeat enough it won't distract too much.

*Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah. Who doesn't know this song right now. Might as well call it "Hansel" because its so hot right now.

*Sufjan Stevens - To Be Alone With You. Love this song. Again, maybe a bit more mellow and chill, but I love it.

*Jack Johnson - Maybe a bit too overplayed, but there are some good ones. Better Together, Gone

*Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah. I think this was a Bob Dylan song, it's long, and maybe is too depressing, but it has the chill vibe to it.

*Evanescense - My Immortal.

*The Format - On Your Porch, A Mess To Be Made,

My wife would recommend a bunch of Norah Jones. The Nearness of You, Come Away With me, Sunrise, etc. would all be on her list. Maybe a bit to mellow though.

If you really wanna have fun though, here is what I would suggest:

J-Kwon - Tipsy
Dr Dre - Nothing But a "G" Thang
Ludacris - What's Your Fantasy
Wrecks N Effect - Rump Shaker
Snoop Dogg - Drop It Like Its Hot
Usher - Yeah!
50 Cent - Just a Lil Bit
Ginuwine - Pony
Lil Jon - Get Low
MIMS - This Is Why I'm Hot
JT - Summer Love
Gym Class Heros - Clothes Off

Hopefully there is something in there you can use.

You seem to want to mix things up and that's a good idea. Be sure to get some old 40s swing numbers in--the older crowd will appreciate it and they're great to dance to.

Glen Miller's Moonlight Serenade, Cole Porter's In the Still of the Night, I Only Have Eyes for You...

No wedding reception is complete without The Chicken Dance. There's nothing quite like boozed up parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles etc flailing around the dance floor like beached manatees. Of course the lack of liquor might make it slightly less amusing, but only slightly.
Damn I miss the Polish weddings of my youth.

Well, being that it's surfah, you're probably correct about that dance being less amusing; however, if surfah were to invite the kids in Helaman Halls to the reception, tears of laughter would be flowing freely.
