Default 1/2 Marathon Training plan

I was reading Outside Magazine while at the dentist today. There was a nice article on the basics of running

http://outside.away.com/outside/body...n-running.html

Since I am most likely going to do a 1/2 marathon this fall I was intrigued by this training plan by Ryan Hall's coach. http://outside.away.com/outside/body...-marathon.html

It seems to expect that you already have a good base of miles in you, but I imagine if I actually follow this that I can reach my goal of a good 1/2.

Just out of curiosity, because I know you're fast, what's your idea of a good 1/2?

Well I only have done one before and I don't recall what I did, somewhere around 1:40 - 1:44 and that was the Provo River 1/2.

The course I plan on doing this year is hilly so really I just want do better than last time (sub 1:40) and not feel like I am going to die when I finish. I felt so bad last time.

I think a good 1/2 id different for everyone. For me I would love to be close to 1:30. I think that would be a very good 1/2 for me.

I may be fast on the shorter distances, but I don't do distance (yet). I have only run over 10 miles once in my life. and that was the aforementioned 1/2.

I would very much like to break 1:30 but every time it looks possible I get injured. In your forties, running fast often causes injuries.

So I'd like to design a running program to break 1:30 while staying healthy. I'm about a 1:38 to 1:35 on a good day, but unless I'm going downhill, I don't know where to find the extra twenty seconds a mile.

I like that race. Besides it being a gorgeous course, it's fast. I ran my half PR there in '06: 1:44:35. I couldn't do that on a course that's not downhill.
