Default Jobs that would be frowned on

Just curious as to what you think would be acceptable. Now, obviously as a mormon, you probably should not be a stripper or a drug dealer. But I was just curious as to whether or not you could get yourself in hot water if you took certain other jobs.

I lived in Denver for a bit and Coors is obviously a big deal...is it 'legal' in the church to take a job there as a Business Analyst for Coors Brewery?

How about a lawyer for a law firm defending big tobacco?

How about an accountant that does accounting work for a strip club?

Just curious as to whether or not you would have any problems working in a job for those companies or if it would not bother you in the slightest. Also, what would the church reaction (bishop or stake president or higher) to you taking a job like that?

I chose not to go into law because I couldn't reconcile the immorality in that profession with my church standards.

At least you were able to identify your inability to act morally in advance. I know that I and others have been able to do it. Still, I would think that your short comings in this area would be a handicap in any vocation. What is it that you do?

I would not personally do this. One of the luxuries of the practice of law is that you get to select your clients.

Any other jobs that any of you feel straddle that border? How about owning a horse race track? How about owning a racing horse? How about being a senior manager for a casino? I'm just curious as to all of your thoughts on some of these professions as an individual and how you think the church would view these types of jobs.

In Nevada, I suppose that we have lesser Church morals, as we've had high councilmen own liquor distribution centers, be accountants for brothels. lawyers for murders and even bartenders and massage therapists.

Providing legal service for almost anybody doesn't offend me. If the activity performed by my client is not something I would do, I don't frequent his establishment, but refusing the legal services I provide doesn't offend me. Then again, who ever accused me of having morals.

We've had owners of casinos, pit bosses, senior managers, legal counsel for casinos in the top eschelons of Church leadership in Las Vegas.

Dan, we obviously have an abundance of lawyers here, and I was just goofing on you.

When I was making education/career decisions I hadn't yet been exposed to the corruptness in your field. It's been since then that I've developed my opinion of lawyers. That said, I've had enough personal interactions with good men that happened to be lawyers to know you're not all bad all the time.

Thanks, I think.

Kind of like the proverbial prostitute with a heart of gold?
