The elite, the powerful, the rich, the intelligentcia, are on the side of the gays. The folks that joined the LDS church--anmolously--in making the difference in the vote are themselves society's downtrodden and in many cases victims. The victims turned abusers. They can't and won't do anything for the LDS Church. The LDS Church's new enemies will stop at nothing now to destroy its image, its goodwill, and they are in a position to do it. They will be brutal, ingracious, and smart. It's the 1970's redux.

But if the protests are more outrageous than a cumbersome, bureaucratic organization, people will ignore it.

Although the tide is changing, most straights are not passionately in favor of gay marriage. My guess some people think, "heck, yeah, let them be as miserable as straights," some care intellectually but not emotionally and a few care as much as the affected group, gay persons. The Church won't magically say, "okay gays, we changed our mind, get married." Even if they do, it wouldn't cause people to flock to them. I'm just doubting the impact of it, because it won't divert people who were otherwise neutral towards the Church, but rather it will provide justification for those naturally inclined to dislike the Church. My guess is, it will have a neutral impact over the long term.

Hyperbole at its best. The rich, the elite don't care unless they're from Hollywood. Rich and elite may pontificate, but in the end, they don't care.

You don't think they care? They gave tens of millions to the gay marriage movement. They love to get self-righteous against social conservativism. I happen to know that last week the board for the King County Bar Association literally had to make a pledge to support gay marriage.

You have no idea what you're in for. The whole sordid history of the priesthood ban, etc., will be resurrected. It's a natural.

It was never to happen any way and this won't stop if money makes it worthwhile. Life in the real world is about money first.

For one hurrah, sure, but then they'll worry about their kids private education or the newest green fad. These people outside of those deemed directly impacted have no staying power on the issue. If not, why aren't they flocking to real issues such as cancer research?

Whoops. This actually caught my attention.

While membership in the Pac was unlikely, this certainly won't help much.

Maybe the chancellors will actually respect BYU for sticking to its guns?

Please, I want to be in the PAC 10 so badly. I really do. I hate the MWC.

You are so naive. The regents and administrators of Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Washington, are the ones who run things in the Pac 10. You can't see that? Who is the "NCAA" all athletic people hate? It's them. Money? Football money is a drop in the bucket compared the tens of billions of endowment and research money and budgets for academic programs.
