I've tinkered with it. Appears to be a bit of a learning curve to it.

On the other hand, the iDVD and iMovie applications are very easy to use.

I have hnever used Garage Band but I have heard it is pretty good. I have used cubase and sonar and suaully use cuibase, but that's just becasue that was the one I learned first and so it is easiest for me.
