Default Wisconsin game

The offense really stagnated during the first half of the second half. Kept trying to go down low to Davies, who was completely ineffective. Either turning it over, or missing shots. And everyone else standing around. Totally killed the flow. They've got to do something better than that. We'll see that if teams can play Davies straight up, then BYU will suffer. Until they realize they have to play with some flow and not look for him constantly. Play some high-low with him at the top of the key, let him face up and hit that 15 footer at the elbow.

The Wisconsin PG is money. He's good, and he killed BYU. He took Anson Winder to school, paid for his books, and filled out his scantron sheets. Holy shiznit.

Abuou was disappointing. Really a non-factor. Rogers needs to be huge for this team to be good, he showed some flashes in the first half, but got almost no minutes in the 2nd half and was pulled after giving up a bad 3.

One just hopes and prays that Carlino is a significant upgrade.

And what's up with Zylstra--a two who can't hit open three pointers? Kind of defeats the point of having him on the floor.

Hartsock. He was the really the only mismatch on the floor for BYU. He was cash money. Loved his game tonight. I liked Harrison's aggression, but he's a work in progress. Cusick is just there. Doesn't make anything happen, just tries to not make mistakes. That's not good enough for this team.

This team will get better. Hopefully they learned something from this thumping.

Brutal game. Brust destroyed us. 1:00AM here in Brazil. I never miss a game but this was painful.

Brust just a symptom. Without Winder and Harrison at the 1 and 2, BYU is very susceptible to dribble penetration. Even with Winder at the point, it was not pretty defensively. But then again, he was playing one of the best college PGs in the country.

When you give up penetration, help comes, and that's all she wrote against a team that passes well. There were zone rotation problems as well. But at some point, you have to make a decision that you don't leave the guy who is shooting lights out.

I play a lot of pickup ball. One of the guys who plays was an invited walk-on at BYU. He's a VERY good shooter. He's 5'9" and 160lb, with a small frame, he had to do SOMETHING well to be on the team. And that's shooting. I NEVER leave him to help. Even if it means an open layup. Because if it's an open 3, that's a 3 point layup for him.

The game is very simple. Take away the things that people do well, and make them do things that they don't do well. Brust should have had a man in his pocket, and been forced to put the ball on the floor, and the zone should have always cheated to him. Embarrassing.

There's no floor leadership yet. Not a surprising outcome given the Jimmer dynamic. But they need to find one very quickly.

The 2nd half of this game brought to mind the scene in "13 Assassins" by Takashi Miike, where the leader of the assassin samurais unfurls the scroll "Total Massacre."
