It's hard to believe that the son of the point guard from my freshman year at BYU is now on the team.

I am very impressed at how much better the Utes are this year. If I had my choice of rosters, I would take the Utah roster over the BYU roster. I think they should have won that game. If it weren't for Carlino suddenly discovering some semblance of stroke, Utah would have won. Their new center is a beast. Dallin. Loveridge has the potential to be a star and is better than any of BYU's additions.

One can see that BYU's recruiting this past year was lackluster. Delgado looks to be a bust. I've not seen him do a single productive thing. BYU doesn't need more 2 guards who can't shoot. Ambrosino is certainly not going to be a star. Calvert probably has the most potential, but he is rooted on the bench behind such "stars" as Cusick, Carlino, and Winder. These days if you are going to be an exceptional player, it's hard not to find your way onto the floor.

Winder needs to be a starter on this team. Cusick couldn't guard his grandmother. He gives up drive after a drive and it breaks down the entire defense. Nate Austin is beyond soft. It's embarrassing. Sharp has a lot of hustle, but is limited by his lack of ball skills and lack of meat on his bones. On a good team, he would not be starting.

Biggest disappointment of the season--how bad the defense is. Losing Abuou was big. Second biggest disappointment is how poor the outside shooting has been. These guys are not able to knock down open looks. Here's how guys are shooting from the 3:

Haws 33%
Zylstra 35%
Carlino 25%
Cusick 37%
Ambrosino 46% (only 11 attempts)
Delgado 17% (only 6 attempts)

The team overall for all shots is shooting 43.5%

Right now, I would say that there is less than a 50% chance these guys make the dance. A fourth place finish or worse in the WCC is possible.

this team is talentless.

I don't understand Cusick starting, mostly in light of his defensive liabilities.

Loveridge was a big loss.

I agree none of these players should be on the BYU team: Cusick, Zylstra, Sharp, Ambrosino and Delgado. The fact they are shows the absolute dearth of true D1 basketball talent.

Cusick has started because Carlino has looked lost and couldn't shoot the broadside of a barn with a wide-angle lens.

Haws is a great role-player. But not a great star. When you ask him to take over, he really can't. Last night the Utes decided to make someone other than Davies or Haws win the game for the Cougars. Luckily, someone did step up. Carlino.

Sometimes I took at the what BYU is doing on the floor and wonder if they aren't being out-coached. I got that flavor against last night.

This is not a team that finds it easy to create shot opportunities when Davies has a difficult matchup.

Overall I would say that Utah had the better, easier shots, but did not convert at a high enough rate.
