I can't say that I'm really surprised. I wonder what finally got him to admit to it? Was there a threat of some additional legal action against him in addition to getting booted off the tour? There had to be. It couldn't have just been his conscience. Was there some sort of plea bargain involved?

Basso just might be my new favorite cyclist. Finally, someone just admits it and moves on. Floyd, take heed.

This is just what Millar did a few years ago. Not sure if it makes him a hero or not. I think it is just sad. For the last few years of Armstrong's TdF victories there were only two guys that could stay with him, Basso and Ullrich, and both of them are cheats. ANd LA?
I am still not sure about Landis, as his method of alleged cheating is still so unlikely. The entire think is very disappointing. It is making it hard ot get excited about the Giro.

It certainly doesn't make him a hero. But it's refreshing to see someone take accountability for their actions albeit a year late. Watching Floyd tour the country bumming cash for his defense has just been sad.

Basso now saying he didn't dope
http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cyclin...ory?id=2863597
Basso just changed his mind saying he only thought about it but never went through with it. I guess when they threatened to take his Giro win away from him he had a little different story to tell. |

Update: Basso is no longer my new favorite cyclist, his reign lasting less than 24 hours. My favorite cyclist is now Creekster.

Sadly, I must decline Steel's generous award, as I feel it is important for a favorite cyclist to at least ride the bike more than a few times a year.
Here is a rather amusing comment on the Basso affair: http://www.velonews.com/news/fea/12221.0.html
