Default I did a 12 mile ride this morning

I only have a mountain bike, a Gary Fisher that I bought a couple of years ago. I like to ride down on the parkway by my house, but I haven't been on a bike in over a year.

Anyway, what would a respectable time be for a 12 mile ride on a mountain bike, mostly flat but with a couple of hills? I want to see if I'm a pathetic wuss.

Everyone is totally different, but to avoid complete wussification it should probably be in the 40-50 minute range. 14-15 mph would be quite respectable. (Do my numbers add up?)

You should be embarrased by anyting more than 10 or 11 minutes. Bluegoose and Arch usually do 12 miles in about 6 minutes while they are warming up. And you don't even want to know how fast Q can do it.

12 miles in 45 minutes would be 15 miles and hour, so yes your numbers are good.

It just depends upon terrain and tires.

Thirty to forty minutes is an acceptable ranger.

It also depends on whether you are talking about roling time or total elapsed time (assuming you have traffic lights, etc.) For just rolling time, 30 would be great. 40 would be very good.

And quality of mountain bike would go a long way to determining that. The expensive ones are damn light allowing for better average speeds. I never refer to rolling time, as that is for wimps. Total elapsed time is all that matters.

Total elapsed @ 30 with a couple of stops would be very, very good indeed.

Are you guys trying to tell me that you can go 12 miles in 30 minutes on a mountain bike, likely with fatty tires?

Q, is that you channeling through Archaea's keyboard?

Not me. At this poijnt of my, umm, "development" I would need a rest stop at the half way point just to attempt 12 miles.
