Do you not understand the concept of a representative form of government? You know, the one where the people elect the legislators, and the legislators make the laws?

I understand that the same people who vote for legislators, vote in referendums and initiatives. If you don't trust them to vote on Prop 8, why are you trusting them to elect your legislature, governor, and in some places, judges?

To be more clear, you seem to argue for a pure democracy. However, the U.S. is a constitutional republic, as is California.

You seem to want to set aside that whole scheme in favor of pure democracy by the will of the majority.

Why put that step in there in the first place? Why didn't the founding fathers trust the will of the majority without having the laws voted on directly by the people?

I don't like the referendum and constitutional amendment procedure in California, but that's the way it is, and I have to live with it.

What happens in two years when the California constitution is amended again, this time to allow gay marriage? Will you be satisfied that it's the will of the people?

There are a few good reasons, which you'd probably learn if you took a poly sci class.

Of course. That's how the democratic process works. This new to you?

You sure recognize a rhetorical question when it hits you in the ass, don't you?

Better than you detect sarcasm. In any case, I'm always happy to educate you on democracy.

Saying I'd accept the electoral overturning of Prop 8 as the will of the people really stumped you, didn't it.

Allowing the California Supreme Court to determine whether an amendment is actually a revision is how the California Constitution works.

Based on your prior posts, that IS news to you.

Right. With enough supporting case law to fill an entire thimble.
