I wondered something similar after the Red Sox came back from 0-3 in 2004, but nary a talk was muttered out in Padresville.

Probably the best thing about Phelps's victory last night.....not only did he enter Olympic history. It landed him $1 million bucks from Speedo for tying Spitz.

Not a freaking bad night.

Michael Phelps is going to be on top of the world for the rest of the year. Holy crap is that single dude going to have a nice time over the next several months.

The funny thing about this is that most of the time what Phelps did will cost you the race. Even he said he thought he'd blown it by taking that last short stroke. People keep talking about that glide into the finish but that's how it's done. Swimmers go hard to the wall and they have to have a feel for when there's room for one more stroke or if it's time to reach.

Well, he's no Brett Favre, but I'd give him a go.

I just lost all respect for him, those olympic ring tattoos are gay when they are on the inside of your bicep like almost everyone has, but they are even gayer when they are on your hip. I bet he likes to show it off when he shows guys his vagina.

Dude is now one of the most marketable guys on the planet to chicks, and you're bagging on because when he does the deed, women go nuts over his rings.

This thread needs to be balanced out a bit.

I think I'd be willing to overlook that. Or look over that. Either way.

It's cool that the swimmers from the other teams walked over to congratulate Phelps.
