Default ****The Official Ramen Thread****

It's a shame we haven't started this already.

Best brands, best flavors, best recipes.

Dishes that were eaten on my mission:

Cook ramen noodles. Mix with can of Cream of Mushroom. Heat. Serve over toast. A companion told me about this, and I told him it sounded disgusting. But I finally tried it, and it wasn't bad. It never was something I went to back to however.

Another favorite among some of the missionaries was to crumple up the ramen in the bag without opening it. Then open the bag, taken out the seasoning packet and sprinkle it over the ramen. Eat it without cooking, straight from the bag. Seasoned popcorn. I never did like this.

When I cook ramen I do the following:

1. Boil water
2. Break egg into water.
3. Add ramen noodles.
4. Cook for exactly 3 minutes. Overcooked ramen is disgusting.
5. Drain noodles.
6. When you first were cooking the noodles, you started a kettle of boiling water. Add this water to the noodles.
7. Add seasoning packet.
8. Enjoy.

Years of practice to develop this technique.

Whoa Mike. My stomach is convulsing just thinking about ramen and cream of mushroom soup. That sounds disgusting.

Here is how you do ramen: Go to an Asian food store and buy a bag of raw ramen noodles (no dehydrated noodles!!). (I can't remember the brand name). They are stored in the cooler. My favorite is the miso flavor. The flavoring comes as a liquid in a packet (no powder!!). Follow the directions and add some chopped green onions. You only cook the noodles for two minutes. Enjoy.

Once you try fresh ramen, you will never again be able to eat that dehydrated crap.

When you say ramen, I assume you dont mean the brand Top ramen? Since I didnt serve in asia, I was robbed of exposure to good noodles.

Where do you go to buy good ramen noodles?

One of my good friends who went to Japan loved to make "Yakisoba" all the time. i tought it was yum. Apologies for butchering the spelling, since i dont speak japanese.

We buy our top-grade Ramen at Wal-Mart. The little known brand is called "Maruchan".

Actually I like "Top Ramen" better, but it Wal-Mart does not sell it.

Sure I would prefer to have non-dehydrated ramen. Sure I would like to watch "Tampopo", and not the BYU-edited version, than go to work. But life isn't perfect.

Tampopo. What a great movie. And perfect for this thread.

Surely they have lots of Asian food stores in Dallas.

I like noodles with egg, so I have done that. Admittedly, I have not used your recipe.

We actually have a Costco case of ramen in our garage for when the kids crave it. I pledge to go home and use your recipe to see what's up.

Just to clarify, I am kind of confused. You say to "drain" the noodles, but then you instruct to simply place them back into the same kettle of water anyway. What is the purpose?
