11th hour Bush pardons
Other than Himself, Cheney, Rove, Dumsfeld, Rice and the rest of his staff.
Who else will receive a pardon today? I wouldn't be shocked to see Jeff Skilling's sentence get commuted. Anyone else? |

Can a pardon be issued before a formal judicial filing? Have there been subpoenas for crimes against humanity?

If Bush pardons himself and staff it will set a truly horrible precedent: do whatever the hell you want as an aministration -- break laws as much as you want and trample on the Constitution and then pardon yourself when you're done. That's the kind of crap third world dictators would pull. And no, Tex, I'm not saying anything about what Bush, Cheney and their people did or didn't do. I'm just saying a blank check pardon without even anyone being charged with anything would be very bad precedent.

This thread is yet another fine illustration of Bush Derangement Syndrome.

sounds like you agree it would be a bad thing for an outgoing president to do. I don't think it would be upheld as Constutional if anything like that ever did happen. The Constitution says nothing about who the president can or can't pardon, but it wouldn't be hard to make the case that the founders didn't intend for the power to be absolute and unlimited for the chief executive.

I am interested to see who he pardons today. I like the Utah guy he pardoned a couple weeks ago who wasn't even expecting it. Was he just drawing names out of a hat? He's only a few pardons behind Clinton, let's see if he can go for the record. |

Is there ever a record of a person pardoned by the president being overturned? I'm not aware of any. Quote:

EDIT: Clinton pardon 140 people on the last day of his presidency, roughly 75% of the entire number pardoned by Bush for his entire two terms.
