Not along the lines of beating someone or fearing them just because of their race.

I actually interpreted the "hiding his race" thing to mean "hiding his race because of the racism he experienced from whites as a black ".

I am probably wrong in that regard.

his wife says this to him in the film...

'are you afraid they are going to find out you are black?'

Just curious.
No. That's why I'm going entirely off of fussy's ploy synopsis, remember?

Why does it bother you that minorities are portrayed positively?
It doesn't.

HINT: My post had a #1 as well.
Ah, so what really bothers you is that whites are portrayed negatively? Gotcha.

Well, you should check it out sometime. All races are portrayed in both positive and negative ways. Kind of like reality, you know?

Well if race is the primary subject of the movie is it worth it?

Frankly, it would be nice to have no further discussion of race, but that won't happen.

If it were about people, I might find it interesting, but if it's about people's race, then I might go elsewhere.

That's an interesting viewpoint. I wish we could live in a world without war or crime, but there are some excellent books/movies on those topics. Schindler's List and To Kill a Mockingbird dealt with race issues and they were both outstanding movies.

Sure, those were great works. It's just that so much now is retread.

As strange as it sounds, I liked the Joy Luck Club, because it showed a different prespective, the ABC perspective.

We have films about the black perspective, some about Latins, but very little about other groups, Koreans, Vietnamese, Polynesians and others.

If I see one more film of the angry black man, it will be too soon. Spike Lee has worn out the genre.

Our social commentary nowadays is no longer nuanced.

No wonder it was such a hit among Oscar voters.
That's quite an oversimplification. Whites are positively portrayed as much as they are negatively portrayed.

Go see it. Its a pretty good movie.
