Default Maverick's goes off

A huge swell hit the West Coast last week, including Maverick's.
Check out this vid of some heavy stuff. Also some footage from Ghost Tree, where a guy died last week.

Here is a pic of the wave where that guy (Flea) gets pounded in the vid. Look at 2:00 from his board, you'll see him in the wave. That board is probably 9' and a few inches long, to give you perscptive on the size of the wave.

Someone on this board once said that windsurfing was a more manly sport.

Hard to argue against that!

That wave that Pete Mel caught was sick. Unreal footage. It's been big up and down the coast from what I hear. I miss it....

it has been pounding SoCal.

Sets coming in at 10-12 at breaks that are usually 2-3 feet and reserved for spongers.

It has died down quite a bit in the past two days.

I am not good enough to ride it, but i am smart enough to appreciate it.

Well, I used to be able to hit a 95 mph fastball and curve balls were never a problem for me.

Flea's board was probably less than 9 feet. The tow-in boards have evolved to be quite shorter than the boards guys use for paddling into waves. Regardless, the dude got worked by a massive wave!

Yeah it was. I love his style too. If you've ever been to Santa Cruz area, you may know of "Freeline" surfshop. His dad is the owner.

Would someone please explain to me the physics of surfing? Being a landlocked guy, it's something I just don't understand. How does it work?

I spent three years in Orange County - two for school and one working and never really had a chance/desire to give it a try.

Basically, the "locals" go out and sit in the ocean on their surf boards all day, and try to scare off any "outsiders" with their toughness.

Or at least that's what I learned from Blue Crush.

Also, there is a 50 year storm that brings amazing waves...it's the ultimate high.

That's what I learned from Point Break.
