As a ratio? the only reason that is added is to make BYU look better.

If you want to play in the NFL, you are better served playing at SC, not BYU.

BYU has 1 player invited to the combine. Does USC have more?

As a ratio makes sense, doesn't it?

As for Cassell, doesn't he make my point? At BYU, he might have been a John Beck. At USC, he was lucky to get picked last round of NFL draft.

Jay, this is great stuff but I am trying to imagine you explaining this to the Kaveingas until your pocket protector spills its contents all over the floor and by the time you come back up you are sitting all alone in their front room.

However, I think Oneil Chambers catches your vision. The key is that it has been a few years since we can point to one of our stud defenders going onto the NFL.

If you want a serious answer, here are a few things about SC that do not scream ghetto. I will use BYU as a benchmark since I know you are a fan of BYU:

1. Better business school and law school. Likely better all around academics, period
2. More prestigious graduate research programs with much larger annual endowment
3. Average salary of exiting students much higher
4. Tuition is about 10 times as much per year as BYU, thereby attracting some of the wealthiest families to send their kids.
5. One of the greatest athletic traditions in all NCAA in all sports...championships, heismans, etc.
6. Old facilities....because the team has been playing for a long long time. And winning.
7. I've been to countless SC home games. The PAC does not allow beer sales at its home games. I am sure you know this. I have rarely come across terrible behavior, at least any worse than any other stadium.
8. when BYU played at SC, I sat in the BYU section, wore BYU gear, etc. we were treated very well by everyone. I havent heard many people (besides you) complain of their treatment when they went to that game.
9. The campus is in an awful part of town. No getting around that one. The campus itself is really nice. Not sure if you have ever walked around on it.
10. Not sure about the knock on the players. It looks like Reggie took cash, but I cant remember the last time SC was in trouble because its players were violent or getting arrested (Mark Sanchez snuck into the bar when he was a frosh). In contrast, BYU most recently has had rape allegations, or at the very least, group sex.

I could go on and on. Like i said, anytime someone uses the phrase "dumping ground of human debris" and is not TIC, the post is high on the unintentional comedy scale.

Fight On!
I agree with DDD, except Sanchez did sexually assault a woman (allegedley) I believe he also had some ecstacy pills in his apartment as well.

No. But more than at BYU.

Once you bust out the "let's look at it as a ratio" analysis, you are grasping at straws.

Why not this stat, which is equally telling: how many LDS players make it to the NFL from BYU and from USC, as a ratio of LDS players on the roster? I would say that BYU, as a ratio, does a horrible job of pushing its players along to the NFL. But SC, well, Havili will make it for sure. That makes their ratio pretty high!

All charges were dropped against Sanchez

The reason it doesn't fly is that every big time recruit thinks he's the star of the century. But if you're not a top 50 recruit, you're no big deal at USC and you start at the back of the line with a ton of highly recruited guys ahead of you and more being recruited every year you're there.

John Beck is on a sucky team. Matt Cassel has warmed the bench behind some of the greatest QBs in the league.

Cassel's checkbook is doing just fine. The mere fact that he was on SC's team gave him the chance to be drafted. If he was on BYU's roster but never played, he would be selling phones at a mall kiosk right now (incidentally, that Staley reference will never get old).
