This is Angel Matos of Cuba and you may notice that the guy getting the boot to the face isn't wearing any gear. Well that's because he's the referee. Matos didn't like that he was disqualified in his bronze medal match for exceeding the 1 minute of injury time allowed when he hurt his leg. "He was too strict" he said of the referee's call. Matos has been banned for life from the Olympic games. His coach refused to offer an apology.

it looks like his coach was banned for life as well. Was a piece of trash.

Being banned for life from the Olympics isn't enough, given that this guy maybe had 1 more Olympics in him, if that.

Why wouldnt the governing body of his sport step in a send a message....ban him from everything for life?

Who is going to want to ref this guy's next match?

Just checked. The ban is actually more fitting:

"This is a strong violation of the spirit of taekwondo and the Olympic Games. The sanctions are the following and are effective immediately: Lifetime ban of the coach and athlete in all championships sanctioned by the (World Taekwondo Federation) and at the same time, all records of this athlete at the Beijing Games will immediately be erased," said the announcer, reading a WTF release.

PS on a side note, how cool is it that your sport is known as WTF?
